No, it won't send automatic emails or integrate with your website. But for tracking clients and deals? It's perfect.

The Project Tracker template has task lists, Gantt charts, dependency tracking, and progress rollups. For teams under 10 people, it's often more flexible than a rigid SaaS tool — because you can customize columns, add your own formulas, and format it exactly how your team works.

FreshBooks ($19/month) → Invoice Template

The Professional Invoice template handles line items, auto-calculated tax, payment terms, and bank details. Export as PDF and send. The template looks more professional than most SaaS-generated invoices because the typography and layout aren't constrained by a web form.

Mailchimp ($26/month) → Bulk Email Script

If you're sending to under 500 recipients, a Python email script does everything Mailchimp does: CSV-based recipient lists, HTML template with variable substitution, scheduled sending with delays. No monthly limit. No "powered by" footer. You own your email list completely.

Annual savings: $312

The Total Savings

$1,644 saved every year. Cost to do it: $79 once.

That's a 20x ROI in year one. In year two, it's infinite — the templates don't charge a renewal fee.

When SaaS Still Makes Sense

I'm not anti-SaaS. There are situations where paying monthly makes sense:

• Team collaboration at scale — If 20+ people need to access and edit data simultaneously, Excel isn't the right tool.
• Compliance requirements — If you need SOC 2, GDPR audit trails, or HIPAA compliance, SaaS tools come with those built in.
• API integrations — If your CRM needs to talk to your email tool, which talks to your accounting software, stick with SaaS.
• You genuinely don't have 10 minutes a week — If manual data entry would literally cost you more than the subscription, pay the subscription.

But for the vast majority of solopreneurs, freelancers, and micro-businesses? The SaaS stack is a luxury tax on not knowing Excel has templates.

The "One-Time Purchase" Movement

There's a growing backlash against subscription fatigue. The average American now pays for 12 subscription services. Businesses pay for 8-15 SaaS tools. Every vendor wants recurring revenue. Every dollar exits your account monthly, forever.
